A gratitude attitude

For years we have had a family tradition around a paper mache centerpiece. It’s a caricature of a Turkey we call the “gratitude Dude”, and from early November on, his hollow form collects daily notes of what we are grateful for. These scraps are pulled out to read from on Thanksgiving as we sit around the table digesting our meal.

For me, the sculptural act of making the Dude fills me with nostalgia and love. That’s all part of setting a table for rituals. What is in the center of your holiday table this year?
