Tillystudio

My name is Tilly Strauss, and I am an artist based in New York's Hudson Valley, with deep ties to a maple sugar farm and a footprint that spans the globe. Throughout my life, I've always straddled the line between being a local and an outsider.

My creative expression primarily takes the form of painting and drawing, serving as a documentation of my surroundings. Living on the farm provides me with a profound connection to my grandparents, those who paved the way before me, as well as the trees, birds, and diverse array of non-human species.

In addition to being an artist, I've consistently embraced the role of a teacher. My current body of work is crafted with the intention of enabling viewers to envision themselves within the creative continuum of our ancestors. My goal is to invite people to connect with narratives that kindle a spirit of adventure, fortify courage, and celebrate perseverance.

Through the dissemination of my art history zines, I aspire to bridge gaps, spark curiosity, and foster a sense of community. By demystifying artistic narratives, expanding perspectives, and establishing connections, I actively contribute to a more inclusive and understanding cultural landscape. I believe that my zines can act as catalysts for meaningful conversations, encouraging a deeper appreciation for our creative roots embedded in the tapestry of time.

WOW!!!! I won an award. This recognition serves as a significant milestone in my journey. It highlights not only the hard work and dedication I have invested but also the support I have received from colleagues and mentors, especially the artists in the Inspiration Arts Group International. The experience of receiving this award is both humbling and exhilarating, reinforcing my commitment to continue pursuing excellence in my endeavors. Recognizing the contributions and efforts of those around me is important, as this achievement is not solely mine but reflective of a collaborative spirit that drives success. On October 2nd, I will be receiving a Dutchess County Legislative citation award from Arts Mid-Hudson for my work bringing attention to ten remarkable female artists from the past who, unfortunately, faced erasure from historical records after their deaths. Last year, each month, under the initiative "Who is She?," I embarked on extensive research, writing engaging narratives, illustrating and producing a limited edition 20-page color magazine about one of these artists. Following the publication, I complemented this effort with a public presentation on YouTube, generously sponsored by the InspirationArtsGroupIntl.

I seek both to resurrect the legacies of historically overlooked women and to empower current artists to see themselves as integral to the canon of art history!

In the early stages of my life, painting and drawing emerged as my most valuable means of communication. Even today, my sketchbook remains a constant companion, a tool that has yielded numerous positive benefits throughout my artistic practice. Recognizing the transformative power of consistently engaging with one's art, I am passionate about assisting fellow artists, both young and old, in cultivating a regular creative practice.

In my role as an Art Accountability Coach, I facilitate a six-week virtual workshop that is accessible nationwide. If you're curious about enhancing your artistic discipline and fostering a more consistent and fulfilling creative practice, I encourage you to reach out and explore the possibilities this workshop can offer.
